The Bluffton Porch House is a low country South Carolina vacation rental home on the salty May River with a beautiful deep water dock. Located in a quiet old-Bluffton neighborhood of live oaks and palmetto trees dripping with spanish moss, The Bluffton Porch House is just the place to get away with family and friends for adventures, quiet times, swimming and boating, fishing and crabbing and so much more! Our large screened-in porch wraps around the entire front (and one side) of the house giving all who gather there to play or lounge (or snooze) an unrivaled view of the beautiful May River just steps away. Our great-big porch table is a special place for sharing food and conversation. It's where new memories are made and old stories handed down.
The Bluffton Porch House is just a three minute drive from Alljoy Landing, a public landing, and about a six minute drive away from the charming low country shops, art galleries and restaurants of Old Town Bluffton. By boat, three minutes from The Bluffton Porch House deep water dock will get you underway toward the May River's inviting sandbar across the water from Palmetto Bluff or toward a bohemian visit to historic Daufuskie Island. For those interested in bigger water, a short boat ride will take you to the Calibogue Sound and on to the Atlantic Ocean. From our dock, boaters can get to Hilton Head, Savannah, Beaufort and Tybee Island to name a few special locales. No boat? No problem. Local water taxies can pick you up right off our dock.
By the way, The Bluffton Porch House is the perfect house in the perfect place if what you want to do is load up your tackle box, set your alarm clock, grab a cooler and head out for an unforgettable day of fishing. Go it alone or bring your best buds for what promises to be one of those trips that becomes tradition. Speaking of tradition, we're pretty sure that if what you want to do is get your family together for some quality time spent in a beautiful place, The Bluffton Porch House is just right. Engaged and looking for an incredible place to say "I do?" Community Chapel at Palmetto Bluff and Church of the Cross are just minutes away by boat or car. The Bluffton Porch House would be ideal for wedding headquarters! If that little round white ball is calling your name, Bluffton and Hilton Head boast great golf courses. There is much to do and see and The Bluffton Porch House is a beautiful, laid back, comfortable place to call home while you're here.
We do have a confession to make though: Even if you never get on or in the water, The Bluffton Porch House porch and dock are the perfect place to go for an incredible, unhindered view of the May River and its miles of marshes; for breezes that rustle palm fronds and lull porch loungers to sleep; for rainy day board games or long awaited catching up with family and friends; for taking a break from the busy-ness of life. Throw in an occasional stroll through Old Town Bluffton to check out the local art scene or the weekly farmer's market and then grab a delicious meal...and you're all set.
We'd love to tell you how The Bluffton Porch House came to be. It sits on land purchased in 1943 by our grandparents. In 1991, when a lightning strike burned the original sugar shack home, our family rebuilt and carried on the tradition of Bluffton and the May River.
We are the grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law of the original owners. And, we purchased The Bluffton Porch House from family in February 2019. We are excited and grateful to share it with you!
Bluffton was and is in our blood. It will get into yours if it isn't already. If you are a Bluffton regular, The Bluffton Porch House will be everything you need to have a great time. If you're a Bluffton newbie, we've got you covered. We'll introduce you to the Bluffton basics: pluff mud, fishin', swimmin', sittin' on the porch during a storm, crabbin' with chicken necks, navigating the May River's tides and so much more.
Welcome! Enjoy, relax, learn and renew!
